Homeowners can qualify for rehab assistance

An informational meeting on programs offering financial assistance to qualifying homeowners whose house needs rehabilitation or repairs will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie.

Leanne Garabedian and Carson Arnold from Arundel Community Development Services will provide information about the property rehabilitation program services available through ACDS, a private nonprofit organization that administers federal, state and local housing and community development funds, as well as affordable housing initiatives.

ACDS makes direct, low-interest or no-interest loans to eligible, low-income households so homeowners can rehabilitate their house.

Repairs and rehabilitation work must qualify under state and federal regulations. Typical repairs include fixing faulty plumbing or wiring, leaking roofs, and deteriorated windows and doors, and modifications for special needs.

Funds for women's groups

Anne Arundel Women Giving Together (AAWGT), a women's giving circle and a fund of the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County, has available just more than $60,000 in grant funds for programs directed to at-risk county women, families and children, with a focus on education, health and welfare, and violence and abuse prevention.

One-year grants of up to $10,000 will be made to a limited number of 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. A downloadable Grant Application and the Grant Criteria with complete descriptions of eligible activities and other program information is available at www.givingtogether.org.

A Prospective Applicants Forum will be held 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Jan. 24 at Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, 121 South Villa Avenue in Wiley Bates Heritage Park. Reservations are required at rmr123@verizon.net. Grant applications must be postmarked or delivered to AAWGT at the office of the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County by noon Feb. 12. Successful applicants will be notified in June, with funds available July 1. Grants must be spent by June 30, 2010.
