'Darwin Awards': accidental humor

January 08, 2009|By FROM SUN NEWS SERVICES

No dumbo celebs being celebrated here. Just dumbo regular folk. The black comedy The Darwin Awards is a 2006 film with Joseph Fiennes, Winona Ryder and Josh Charles that was inspired by the cult Web site of the same name, which chronicles "the improvement of the human genome by honoring those who accidentally kill themselves in really stupid ways." Endless sick humor at darwinawards.com. (9:35 p.m, Showtime)

Feeding frenzy:: Tonight the folks at The Office get some good news, but they still find a way to make a mess of things. When Oscar (Oscar Nunez) informs Michael (Steve Carell) that the office must spend a $4,300 cash surplus or lose it in the next year's budget, Michael opens the floor to suggestions, causing factions to break out and pitting office mates against one another in their efforts to get what they want. Meanwhile, Dwight (Rainn Wilson) takes Angela and Andy (Angela Kinsey, Ed Helms) to Schrute Farms to work on their wedding plans. (9 p.m., WBAL-Channel 11)

Big bowl:: The college football season all comes down to an Orange Bowl showdown in Miami. It's Oklahoma (12-1) vs. Florida (12-1) for the national title. You've got to love this matchup - unless you're from Texas. (8:15 p.m., WBFF-Channel 45)

Late-night guests:: Actor Dustin Hoffman visits The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and actress Kate Winslet stops by T he Late Show with David Letterman.
