ASO announces new executive director
The executive director of the Charlottesville, Va., and University Symphony Orchestra, William H. Martin, will become the new executive director of the Annapolis Symphony orchestras as of Feb. 15, ASO officials announced.
During the past five years at Charlottesville, Martin has increased that orchestra's annual fund by 85 percent and expanded the yearly concert offerings. He also helped create a five-year strategic plan and complete a $3 million campaign to support new initiatives.
A graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., with a bachelor's degree in business administration with a minor in music, Martin has also worked for the Roanoke, Va., Symphony Orchestra and American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras in Fairfax, Va.
ASO music director Jose-Luis Novo said, "Bill Martin comes with impressive fundraising credentials and a wealth of professional experience, which will be most beneficial in further developing and achieving the ASO's artistic goals."
The ASO presents 14 concerts annually, including classic, pops, education and family performances. The ASO board picked Martin "after an extensive search," said board chairwoman Patricia Edwards.
