Crofton teen charged with thefts linked to Craigslist
Annapolis police have arrested a Crofton teenager in connection with three robberies of people responding to Craigslist advertisements. Charles Edward Carroll Jr., 17, remains in custody at the Jennifer Road Detention Center on armed robbery, assault, theft and other charges, police said. The first victim had arranged to meet the seller about 6 p.m. Dec. 23 in the 1200 block of Gemini Drive to purchase a gift card; the second was trying to purchase two cell phones about 8:30 p.m. Friday in the 2100 block of Gemini Drive. The final victim had arranged to meet the seller to purchase a cell phone at 10:30 p.m. Friday at Tyler Avenue and Forest Drive. A man who approached handed him the cell phone and took $180, then snatched the phone back and ran toward a group of men standing nearby, police said. When the victim ran toward the men, one threatened to shoot him and they ran away, police said. An Annapolis police officer stopped a suspect as he was running, and the victim identified him as the robber, police said. Carroll, who has been charged as an adult, carried the two cell phones described in the advertisements, and the phone number listed on Craigslist was the same for the two Friday incidents, police said.
