Tigers waste 11-point lead

Andrew Brown scored 20 points and Lafayette defeated visiting Towson, 70-63, yesterday.

Michael Gruner added 11 points for the Leopards (3-8), who rallied from an 11-point first-half deficit.

Junior Hairston had 22 points and 11 rebounds, Jarrel Smith added 15 points and 11 boards, and Josh Thornton shot 5-for-11 from three-point range and finished with 17 points for Towson (5-7).

Lafayette's substitutes outscored their Towson counterparts 21-3.

Towson outscored Lafayette 15-4 on second-chance points and 6-4 on the fast break.


LOUISIANA TECH 83, UMBC 62: : Freshman forward Erin Brown led four Retrievers in double figures, but UMBC (7-5) dropped its third straight game on the first day of the University of Virginia's Marriott Cavalier Classic at John Paul Jones Arena.

Brown scored 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting, while Carlee Cassidy had 14 on four three-pointers. Meghan Colabella added 10 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds, three blocks, three assists and two steals.

The Retrievers will face Rider in today's consolation game at 4:30 p.m.
