Formwalt, Gloria Mary

GLORIA M. FORMWALT, a long time resident of Linthicum Heights and a homemaker for over 50 years, died December 24, 2008 at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center. She was 85 years old at the time of her passing. Mrs. Formwalt was predeceased by her husband, Robert G. Formwalt who passed in 2003. She is survived by three children and four grandchildren, Stacey, Brandie, Jill and Eric; two were sons, Robert G. Formwalt, Jr. of Cordova and Stephen G. Formwalt of Havre de Grace and one daughter, Catherine L. Posey of Millersville. Gloria and Robert were married in 1946. They made a life for themselves and raised their three children in Linthicum, Maryland. Mrs. Formwalt lived in Millersville for the past 5 years with her daughter and son-in-law. Surviving siblings are Albert, Julio and Victor Salamone, Theresa Salamone and Alverta Zakas. Mrs. Formwalt is the youngest daughter of italian immigrants who came pursuing the american dream in the early 1900's; they landed at Ellis Island in New York City, New York. Her parents were Salvatore and Pauline Salamone who had five sons and four daughters. Mrs. Formwalt, a devoted wife and loving mother, was also an active member of the Linthicum community. She was a member of the Linthicum Women's Club for many years and the Sodality of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church where she and her husband Robert, were founding members. Mrs. Formwalt helped her youngest son Stephen open Flowers Extraordinaire by Stephen in Ferndale in 1981 and she ran the shop for more than 18 years. She also loved to garden in her back yard - always a summer vegetable garden, and canned tomatoes for her special italian sauce. She also loved to relax in the pool, when time permitted. Mrs. Formwalt was an avid sports fan who loved the Orioles, original Colts and the Ravens. She was also on a duck pin bowling league for many years in North Linthicum. Calling hours are from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. and 7 P.M. to 9 P.M., December 30, 2008 at McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home, P.A. in Brooklyn, Maryland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at St. Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church at 9:30 A.M.
