Three firefighters suffer minor burns in house fire

Three Baltimore County firefighters suffered minor burns at a townhouse fire near Catonsville late Thursday, officials said yesterday. No one was home when the fire occurred about 10 p.m. in the 1100 block of Granville Road, fire officials said. The cause of the fire, which was brought under control about 11:30 p.m., is under investigation, they said.

Crane lift to close 3 lanes on Maryland Avenue

A crane lift operation is planned in the 1400 block of Maryland Ave. today from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m., according to Baltimore transportation officials. To accommodate the work, three lanes of the road will be closed in the area throughout the day, and parking will be restricted. Officials say that one lane will remain open for traffic, but they advise motorists to use caution if they need to travel in the area.

Hispanic youth program accepting applications

The Hispanic Youth Symposium is taking applications for the 2009 program online at hispanicyouth .org and hispanicfund.org. The four-day, three-night symposium, to be held July 9-12 at Towson University, brings together 100 to 200 Hispanic high school students for workshops on accessing and affording a college education, and learning about career opportunities.
