HealthLink van provides free medical screening

Upper Chesapeake HealthLink's Medical Mobile Van will be in the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center's parking lot M, MacPhail and Tollgate roads, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Free blood pressure, sleep disorder and body fat analysis screenings will be offered.

Also available are: cholesterol screenings for $10; osteoporosis screenings for $15; and cardiac risk assessments for $20 (cash or check only).

Osteoporosis screenings require a scan of the bare foot.

Mallonee is appointed communications chief

Martha Mallonee was recently appointed director of corporate communication for Upper Chesapeake Health.

Her duties include directing and implementing organizationwide strategic goals, market research and brand management.

She will manage marketing and Web initiatives and handle communications internally and externally.

Mallonee has more than 20 years' experience in health care and nonprofit marketing with multiple organizations.

Prepared childbirth classes offered

Upper Chesapeake Health will offer a six-week Prepared Childbirth Course from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 5 to Feb. 16; Wednesdays, Jan. 7 to Feb. 18; or Thursdays, Jan. 8 to Feb. 19 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

Weekend classes will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 24 and 25.

The cost is $50 for couples delivering at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and $80 for those delivering elsewhere.

Widow/widower support

Upper Chesapeake Health will offer widow/widower support groups, sponsored by Harford Hospice.

A group for those 55 and older will be held from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 6 to Feb. 3.

A group for those under age 55 will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 6 to Feb. 3.

Class on infant CPR

Upper Chesapeake Health's Family Birthplace will hold a class on infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation at 7 p.m. Jan. 6 in the Bel Air/Harford Room at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

The class covers CPR on infants up to 1 year old.

Women's health screening

The Harford County Health Department's Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program is sponsoring free mammograms and gynecological exams for women who meet program guidelines.

Women ages 40 to 64 who have limited income and little or no health insurance may be eligible.

Wellness Center closing for holiday

Upper Chesapeake HealthLink's Community Wellness Center at 2027 Pulaski Highway in the Swan Creek Village Center, Suite 206, Havre de Grace, will be closed Wednesday and Dec. 31.
