Three men killed in separate shootings

Three men were shot and killed in apparently separate incidents Monday night and early yesterday in Northwest Baltimore, city police said.

Yesterday morning's slaying happened shortly before 7:30 a.m. in the 5100 block of Palmer Ave., about one block south of Pimlico Race Course. The man, whose identity had not been confirmed as of last night, appeared to be in his early 20s, according to Officer Troy Harris, a police spokesman.

The man was pronounced dead at Sinai Hospital shortly after paramedics took him there, police said.

Police blocked streets in the neighborhood while detectives and crime lab technicians investigated the shooting. Police also oversaw the towing of a dark-blue Dodge Magnum; Harris said he did not have any information about why the car had been seized.

That shooting came about eight hours after a man was gunned down about two miles away in the city's Woodmere neighborhood.

The victim - identified as Warren O. Davis - was shot in the 5400 block of Fairlawn Ave. about 11 p.m. Monday, police said. Davis, who lived in the block, was shot in the street, Harris said. Police officers found him lying between two parked cars, Harris said. He was taken by ambulance to Sinai Hospital and pronounced dead at 11:39 p.m.

In a third homicide, police identified Oril Jackson Jr., 21, of the 3400 block of Mayfield Ave. as the man who was shot at least three times about 8:30 p.m. Monday in the 3000 block of E. Chase St. near North Lakewood Avenue and died less than an hour later at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

District Court records showed Jackson was indicted Dec. 11 by a city grand jury for multiple drug violations.

There have been two homicides this year near the scene where Davis was killed. On June 3, a 33-year-old man was gunned down in the 4100 block of Rockfield Ave., about a block away from last night's shooting. On May 1, a 23-year-old man was shot to death in the 4100 block of Newbern Ave., also a block away from last night's shooting.

Police did not release information about a suspect or motive in the slayings Monday and early yesterday. Anyone with information about the homicides can call the city homicide unit at 410-396-2100.

Also, police said they have reclassified a homicide from last month to reflect that it occurred in Baltimore County, removing it from the city's homicide count. Officer Nicole Monroe, a police spokeswoman, said a surviving victim of the attack that killed 31-year-old Andre Gay Jr. on Nov. 21 later showed investigators that the shooting had actually occurred two miles away.

Police have determined that the shooting occurred in the 6100 block of Marquette Road, near the Cedonia Mall. Baltimore County police are investigating.

There have been 226 homicides in Baltimore this year, compared with 273 at this time last year, a drop of about 17 percent.
