Scharper, James Earl

On Saturday November 29, 2008, JAMES EARL SCHARPER, 93, at his daughter's home in Arnold, MD, after a short bout with colon cancer. Earl was born in 1915 in Baltimore, MD to William Albert Scharper and Marie Louise Griffin. Earl started his career in the construction of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad in 1936 and retired as a civil engineer with the Chessie System Railroad in 1977. After 31 years of retirement in Huntington, WV, Earl moved to Atria Manresa Assisted Living in Annapolis, MD. he is now happily reunited with his beloved wife of 62 years, Lucile Sparks Scharper. Earl is survived by his sister, Sr. Annina Scharper; three sisters-in-law, Rosemary P. Sparks, Laurette and Gingie Scharper; two daughters and one son-in-law, Susan Garreis and Carol and Francis Edwards; former son-in-law Frederic M. Stiner, Jr., six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews. He was preceded in death by one great grandson, Joseph Michael Stiner; his oldest sister, Sr. Dolores Scharper; one younger sister and brother-in-law, An and Nelson Pape and five brothers and two sisters-in-law, Albert and Jane, Griffin, Henry, Phillip and Sally and Fredric Scharper. Spring time Inurnment and graveside service at Sparks Cemetery in Persinger, WV. A memorial service for the residents and staff of Atria Manresa Assisted Living in Annapolis was held there on December 9. There will be a celebration of his life at Brian Boru Restaurant in Severna Park on December 20 from 2 to 5 P.M. A memorial Mass will be held at the Basilica of teh National Shrine of Elizaberth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg, MD in the spring. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a contribution to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401 or your favorite charity. Gonce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
