* The College of Notre Dame of Maryland School of Pharmacy has appointed Dr. John Michael O'Brien assistant professor of clinical and administrative sciences.

O'Brien is the former president of Responsible Health LLC. He has also worked for the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America as senior director of state policy and a spokesman for Healthy Town USA.

He earned his doctor of pharmacy with honors from Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy and a master of public health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

* Capt. James Bresette, a 1997 graduate of the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, and Joseph DeMino, a 1984 graduate of the school, have received the school's Evander Frank Kelly Honored Alumnus Awards for their service and dedication to the school and the pharmacy profession. Bresette is the deputy director of the Office of Clinical and Preventive Services at the Indian Health Services Headquarters in Rockville and acting director of its Division of Clinical and Community Services. DeMino is pharmacy supervisor for CVS Pharmacy.

* Dr. David Nasrallah recently received a three-year appointment as cancer liaison physician for the cancer program at Union Memorial Hospital. Cancer liaison physicians are an integral part of cancer programs accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

Nasrallah is among a national network of more than 1,600 volunteer physicians who are responsible for providing leadership and direction to establish, maintain and support their facilities' cancer program. Nasrallah, who has a significant interest in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with malignant diseases, is a member of the multidisciplinary cancer committee at Union Memorial Hospital.

* Dr. Peter Swaan, a professor of pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, has been named editor-in-chief of the journal Pharmaceutical Research, the official journal of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. Swaan is also director of the School of Pharmacy's Center for Nanomedicine and Cellular Delivery.
