The 2008 Atlantic hurricane season end officially tomorrow. It was active , as forcast . Hurricane Paloma was the last of 16 named storms. Eight were hurricanes , five of them Category 3 or higher . Colorodo State University's forcast team predicted 15 named storms , eight hurricanes and four Category 3 or higher. Texas suffered three hits. The worst was Ike , causing $11.4 billion in damage -- the state's costliest storm ever. Ike killed 37 people with more still missing.
