New Wentz baby is Bronx Mowgli

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz are the proud parents of a baby boy, and they're celebrating with some Bronx cheer.

Their representative says the pop and rock star couple have named their son Bronx Mowgli. The baby, born Thursday night, weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces.

Bronx is the first child for Simpson-Wentz, who married earlier this year.

Overnight sensation

Twilight, the teen vampire love story based on Stephenie Meyer's book, grossed more than $7 million in Thursday midnight shows - far ahead of the $2.5 million earned by Sex and the City in its opening midnight runs.

With that amount, Twilight could exceed initial forecasts for a $50 million to $60 million opening weekend; Sex and the City opened to $57 million.

You're a Pepper, too

Dr Pepper is making good on its promise of free soda now that the release of Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy is a reality.

The soft-drink maker said in March that it would give a free soda to everyone in America - except estranged GNR guitarists Slash and Buckethead, according to the Pepper Web site - if the album dropped in 2008. Chinese Democracy, infamously delayed since recording began in 1994, goes on sale tomorrow.

Beginning tomorrow at 12:01 a.m., coupons for a free 20-ounce soda will be available for 24 hours on Dr Pepper's Web site. They'll be honored until Feb. 28.

Jackson now Mikaeel?

The Daily Mail of London reports pop star Michael Jackson has become a Muslim named Mikaeel.

The 50-year-old singer, raised as a Jehovah's Witness, reportedly became a Muslim in a ceremony at the home of Steve Porcaro, who composed music for Jackson's Thriller album.

P.S. Obama

It was only a matter of time. A New York school has been renamed in honor of President-elect Barack Obama.

The former Ludlum Elementary School in Long Island's Hempstead Union Free School District was renamed at a school board meeting Thursday - effective immediately.

School officials say most of the 440 students there are black or Hispanic, and Obama's victory is a source of great pride.
