Raymar Morgan scored eight of his 22 points during a decisive 13-0 run last night and the No. 5 Michigan State men survived a scare from Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne, beating the host Mastodons, 70-59.

Michigan State (2-0) led 32-24 at halftime, but the team opened the second half making one of 10 shots. The Spartans fell behind twice by three points to IPFW (0-2), which lost its opener to Xavier by 28.

No. 20 Wake Forest 120, North Carolina-Wilmington 88: : Jeff Teague scored a career-high 31 and the host Demon Deacons (2-0) shot 57 percent to beat the Seahawks (2-1) in a high-flying affair. Wake Forest scored 41 points off 24 turnovers.

No. 23 Villanova 77, Niagara 62: : Scottie Reynolds scored 19 as the Wildcats (3-0) beat the Purple Eagles (1-1) for their 18th straight home win.

State men

Manhattan 61, Morgan State 60: : Antoine Pearson's underhanded heave while falling down in the lane with 9.1 seconds left lifted the host Jaspers (2-0) over the Bears (1-2). Morgan State went ahead 60-58 in a back-and-forth second half when Kevin Thompson scored with 49 seconds left. Manhattan's Andrew Gabriel hit a free throw with 21 seconds left.

No. 4 North Carolina 73, No. 23 Xavier 67: : Rashanda McCants scored 20 of her 27 in the second half to rally the host Tar Heels (4-0) from a five-point deficit to beat the Musketeers (2-1) in the Preseason National Invitation Tournament.

No. 2 Oklahoma 85, Middle Tennessee 65: : Ashley Paris scored 21 and the host Sooners (2-0) got acclimated to their highest ranking in school history with a win over the Blue Raiders (1-1).

No. 13 Vanderbilt 80, Eastern Kentucky 38: : The host Commodores (3-0) opened with a 14-0 run and rolled to victory over the Colonels (2-1).

No. 15 Notre Dame 96, Evansville 61: : The host Fighting Irish (2-0) forced 31 turnovers to beat the Purple Aces (1-1).

No. 17 Ohio State 78, Syracuse 71: : Jantel Lavender had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the host Buckeyes (3-0) past the Orange (2-1).

No. 20 Auburn 71, Georgia Southern 45: : Alli Smalley scored 12 of her 18 in the second half as the visiting Tigers (3-0) defeated the Eagles (2-1).

State women

Towson 75, Loyola 66: : Shanae Baker-Brice scored a game-high 23 and the visiting Tigers (1-0) held off a late rally by the Greyhounds (1-2).

UMBC 89, George Mason 60: : Carlee Cassidy and Michelle Kurowski combined for 44 points to power the host Retrievers (1-1) past the Patriots (0-3).

Navy 53, Winston-Salem State 49: : Angela Myers scored six of the team's final points to seal the win for the visiting Mids (2-1).

Duquesne 66, Mount St. Mary's 59: : Brianna Gauthier (Severna Park) scored 14 in a losing effort for the host Mount (1-1).

Army 56, UMES 43: : The host Black Knights (1-0) ended on an 11-2 run to beat the Hawks (0-2).
