Navy beats St. Francis, 75-63

Loyola falls to Cornell

Kaleo Kina scored 19 points to lead four Navy players in double figures and the Midshipmen beat St. Francis (N.Y.), 75-63, last night.

Mark Veazey added 10 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for the first doubledouble of his career for Navy (2-1). Chris Harris, who scored 12 points in the first half, finished with 17 points for the host Midshipmen, and Alan Teague pitched in with 12 points.

Navy shot 49.1 percent from the field, making 40 percent (8-for-20) from behind the arc.

Stefan Petrunicic led the Terriers (0-2) with 21 points and hit five three-pointers despite missing seven minutes of the second half with a sprained ankle. He returned with four minutes to play.

Kayode Ayeni added 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Terriers.

CORNELL 82, LOYOLA 72: Ryan Wittman scored 24 points and Jeff Foote 19 to lead the Big Red to a win over the Greyhounds in the NIT Season Tip-off tournament in Boston.

Geoff Reeves added 12 points and Alex Tyler 11 for Cornell (2-1), which lost to St. John's in Monday's opening round.

Tony Lewis led the Greyhounds (1-3) with 23 points, and Brett Harvey had 18. Isaac Reid added 13 in the loss.

The Big Red, which led 36-25 at halftime, opened its lead to 52-37 on Tyler's free throw 9:10 into the second half and was never threatened.

Loyola coach Jimmy Patsos sat at the end of the bench after getting a technical midway into the first half, letting his assistants run the team and rarely joining huddles. At one point in the second half, he sat in the stands for about a minute of play.


BOWIE STATE 68, LIVINGSTONE 44:: Denisha Kenion and Teaunsha Robinson scored a dozen points each to help lead the Bulldogs over the visiting Lady Blue Bears.

Robinson was 4-for-4 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line for Bowie State, which led 41-16 at halftime. Kenion added five assists and four rebounds.

FROSTBURG STATE 51, STEVENSON 47:: Three players scored in double figures as the Bobcats defeated the Mustangs in their season opener.

Sophomore Elizabeth Carrington led Frostburg with 11 points. Junior sophomore Mercedes White added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Junior Brittany James Milford Mill) chipped in 10 points and Caryn Wright (Western Tech) and Shanell Williams (Woodlawn) had 12 and 11, rebounds, respectively.

FSU shot just 21.7 percent from the field (15-for-69) but used a 70-39 rebounding advantage, including a 40-11 edge on the offensive end.
