Feldmark to chair regional sustainability committee

Joshua Feldmark, director of the Howard County Office of Environmental Sustainability, will serve as chairman of the Baltimore Metropolitan Council's Regional Sustainability Committee.

The group hopes to share information about environmental practices that can be integrated into government operations and everyday life and coordinate activities to benefit the Baltimore region.

The committee will work to coordinate a regional sustainability program, foster cooperation between state and local governments and maximize partnerships with public, private and quasi-governmental agencies.

Arts council picks Meetze

Wendy Meetze has been appointed deputy director of Howard County Arts Council.

She is an alumna of the Glenelg High School drama and music program and earned bachelor's degrees in theater arts and biology from Virginia Tech.

She has held residencies with the Walt Disney World Co., the Music Theatre of Williamsburg, and Theatre IV in Richmond, Va. She was a high school drama and biology teacher at Centennial High School, Carver Center for Arts and Technology in Towson, and Annapolis High School.

As deputy director, Meetze will be responsible for managing Howard County Center for the Arts and maximizing its use as a resource for the arts.

7 named to Hall of Fame

Tony Brudis, Jim Carlan, Don Disney, Karen Dye, Roger Hockey, Stanley "Chick" Nedzel and Helen Moody have been inducted into the 2008 Community Sports Hall of Fame, sponsored by Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks.

The ceremony was held Oct. 20 at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, with more than 475 guests representing the sports, government and business communities.

The keynote speaker was Terry McAulay, a Howard County resident and referee in the National Football League.
