Donations sought for soldiers

The River Hill Community Association is holding a "Helping Our Heroes" donation drive. Donations will be accepted at Claret Hall and distributed to wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army Hospital.

Prepaid phone cards, electric shavers, clothing, digital video discs and other items are needed. The River Hill Community Association is working with the Soldier Family Assistance Center to collect the items.

The community association's breakfast/lunch with Santa will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. (breakfast) and noon to 2 p.m. (lunch) Dec. 6. Diners can have a picture taken with Santa. Crafts, games and a meal are offered.

The cost is $5 for River Hill residents; nonresidents pay $6. Reservations are required.

Two Nutcracker performances are planned at Claret Hall at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Dec. 13. Admission is free, but reservations are required.

New traffic patterns : The State Highway Administration has opened three roundabouts and two new ramps and removed two traffic signals along Route 32. Signals have been removed at Pfefferkorn and Ten Oaks roads. Motorists on Route 32 can use the ramps and roundabouts to access Burntwoods, Pfefferkorn and Ten Oaks roads. A new Burntwoods Road bridge over Route 32 is also open to traffic. Motorists are asked to reduce speed and stay alert; variable message boards, barrels and arrow boards will guide them through the new traffic pattern. Fit for life : Glenwood Senior Center in Glenwood Community Center is offering a Pilates class from 11 a.m. to noon Mondays. The class is for all fitness levels and aims to improve posture, balance and flexibility. The cost is $40 for eight weeks.

* A new Fit for Life exercise class will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Fridays. The class includes 20 to 30 minutes of low-impact aerobics, 20 minutes of abdominal and mat work and 20 minutes of stretching. The cost is $40 for 12 weeks. 410-313-5440.

Paint, draw : Glenwood Senior Center, 2400 Route 97, Cooksville, is offering a painting and drawing open studio from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays. Take your own supplies and paint. The group is open to everyone, and admission is free. 410-313-5440.
