Two All-Metro Players of the Year from the past school year are among the area high school seniors who plan to sign national letters of intent to accept athletic scholarships from NCAA Division I or Division II programs during the early signing period, which begins today and lasts through next Wednesday.

St. Paul's Bailey Webster, The Sun's volleyball Player of the Year last fall and the top recruit in that sport in the nation, will sign with Texas. Chesapeake of Anne Arundel's Lauren Gibson, last spring's softball Player of the Year, will sign with Tennessee.

Area players from sports such as lacrosse and baseball have also committed to signing early.

In girls lacrosse, 14 area players plan to sign with Florida as part of its first recruiting class.

Sports such as football, soccer and track have a later signing period.

An in-depth look at Webster's recruiting experience appears in tomorrow's editions of The Baltimore Sun.

Here is a list of the players who are expected to sign early.
