Quarterback Joe Flacco connected with Yamon Figurs - on the second play after veteran wide receiver Derrick Mason left the game with a shoulder injury - on a long pass down the middle for a 43-yard touchdown. When the Texans responded by driving to the Ravens' 1-yard line, defensive tackle Haloti Ngata halted Houston with an interception in the end zone.

The Texans drove 80 yards but got only a field goal out of it after stalling at the Ravens' 5. Steve Slaton's 58-yard catch and run with a short pass for a touchdown was nullified by a Texans holding penalty. With a first down at its 3, Houston gave up a safety when tackle Duane Brown was called for holding while pulling down Terrell Suggs to prevent a sack in the end zone.

After opening the quarter with an 11-play, 75-yard touchdown drive - aided by a pass-interference call against Houston in the end zone - the Ravens saw the Texans tighten up the game. One play after Matt Stover missed a 50-yard field-goal try, Houston's Sage Rosenfels hit wide receiver Kevin Walter for a 60-yard touchdown.

Finishing off a drive they started in the third quarter, the Ravens opened a two-touchdown lead about a minute into the fourth and then proceeded to shut down the Texans. Houston's next three drives resulted in a three-and-out and interceptions by Ray Lewis and Samari Rolle. Ravens backup quarterback Troy Smith, inserted into the red-zone offense, threw his first touchdown pass of the season.
