Blanket drive to assist homeless in Cecil

Cecil County HELPs - Homeless Essential Link Providers - is announcing an emergency blanket drive to assist the county's homeless population.

Advocates and service providers are reporting that available beds for families seeking shelter are already at capacity and families are being turned away. Some families with infants and children are living in wooded areas.

The county's only shelter provider, the Meeting Ground, is overwhelmed and has turned away hundreds of people since August.

HELPs is mobilizing the religious community to make a similar appeal to their congregations today.

HELPS is also asking the community for assistance in making space available for an emergency winter shelter.
