Deal Of The Week

Holiday Inn "Stay to Fly"

What's the deal?: Stay at a participating Holiday Inn or Holiday Inn Express and receive a $198 voucher for a round-trip flight for travel between 198 cities in the continental U.S. Guests receive a $298 voucher for flights between the U.S. and Canada or Mexico.

What's the savings?: Savings could be at least $198, depending upon the actual cost of the flight that you end up booking. Holiday Inn requires that you book your flight through their agency, which will select the carrier and the route. It's no savings if the flight ends up costing twice as much as you would pay on, say, Southwest. (The agency also may charge a fee, though I couldn't find it in the small print.) Holiday Inn promises a minimum savings of $50; if you book a lower-priced flight, you can receive a refund of no more than $50. The voucher covers the base fare only - passenger is responsible for taxes, fees and surcharges. Also, you can stay more than once and receive multiple vouchers. I haven't seen a lot of promotion for this offer and it almost slipped my notice, which could mean it's a better deal than Holiday Inn wants you to know.

What's the catch?: You have to book your stay 21 days in advance and complete it by Dec. 31. The type of room and room rate you can book depends on the hotel you choose. Also, redeeming the flight vouchers will be difficult if you're not Web-savvy. An award notification will be e-mailed to guests, who will then have to register their voucher using a specific ID number within 30 days. Flight reservations require a 21-day advance purchase and must be booked within three months of registering for the voucher.
