Victorian tea and fashion show

Friends of the Patapsco Female Institute Inc. will sponsor a Victorian tea and 19th-century fashion show at 3 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Mount Ida Visitor Center, Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park, 3691 Sarahs Lane, Ellicott City.

Clothing from the 1800s will be featured in the fashion show. Tea will be served in the early Victorian parlors of the center, built about 1828. The halls and parlors display furnishings, art and garments appropriate to the institute, a once-famous school for girls that closed in 1891. Hosts in period dress will serve tea.

Programs for teens

The Miller branch library, 9421 Frederick Road, Ellicott City, will hold a meeting for staff members, ages 13 to 17, of its Teen 'Zine from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 10. The online newsletter is written for teens by teens. Everyone is welcome.

A financial aid counselor from Howard Community College will explain how to complete the free application for federal student aid (FAFSA) and find additional financial resources for college from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Miller branch. The program is for teens, ages 14 and older.

Moms meet : The MOMS Club of Ellicott City South, part of a nonprofit international organization that provides support for mothers who have chosen to stay home to raise children, meets to socialize, bring their children together and hear speakers. A nursery is open during meetings, although children are welcome to remain with their parents. Outings and activities are also planned, including a monthly event called "MOMS Night Out." At the library : The Miller branch library, 9421 Frederick Road, Ellicott City, will offer a fall cookie-decorating class for ages 11 to 17 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. tomorrow. Participants can design and decorate cookies with seasonal colors and themes, then eat their creations. Materials are provided. Registration is required. 410-313-1950.
