Mt. St. Joe next after 2-0 MIAA 'A' quarterfinal win vs. John Carroll

Greg McBride scored in the second minute to give Gilman's No. 5 soccer team a lead the Greyhounds never relinquished as they beat visiting John Carroll, 2-0, in the quarterfinals of the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference tournament.

The host Greyhounds (13-5-3) withstood late first-half pressure from the Patriots.

Diego McQuestion fed Cooper Brown for an insurance goal with about 20 minutes left in the game. The Greyhounds meet No. 7 Mount St. Joseph in the semifinals. The Gaels host the game Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.

NO. 3 RIVER HILL 6, PATUXENT 0: : Jake Pace scored two goals as the Hawks (12-2-1) won their Class 2A South regional semifinal. They will play Marriotts Ridge on Monday at 6 p.m. for the title.

NO. 8 FALLSTON 3, WILDE LAKE 2: : Dominic Welsh headed home the game-winner off a throw-in from Mike Hamilton with nine minutes left to lead the Cougars past the Wildecats (10-5) in a Class 3A East semifinal. The Cougars (14-2) host Reservoir on Tuesday at 5 p.m. for the region title.

NO. 6 PERRY HALL 3, LINGANORE 0: : John Shipley had a goal and an assist for the host Gators (13-2) in Class 4A North. Perry Hall faces No. 11 Parkville for the regional championship Wednesday.

NO. 9 ARCHBISHOP CURLEY 3, LOYOLA 0: :: Chris Weaver, Steven Anderson and Oumar Ballo scored as the host Friars (12-8-1) advanced to the MIAA A Conference semifinals. They play No. 1 McDonogh on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. The Dons finish 7-8-2.


NO. 2 FALLSTON 4, NO. 7 WILDE LAKE 0: : Monica Fischer (two goals, two assists) was in on every score for the host Cougars (15-0). Marissa Hyde made nine saves for her eighth shutout of the season.

NO. 13 CENTURY 2, WALKERSVILLE 1: : Kerri Kropinski scored the game-winner with four minutes left to lift the host Knights (12-2-2) over the Lions in Class 2A West. The Knights travel to North Hagerstown on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for the regional final.

No. 14 LOCH RAVEN 14, POLY 1: : Sa'sha Kershaw scored four goals to lead the Raiders past the host Engineers in the Class 2A North region semifinal. Loch Raven (10-3-2) advances to meet No. 4 Eastern Tech on Monday at 3:30 p.m. at CCBC-Essex.

THOMAS JOHNSON 1, NORTH CARROLL 1: (TJ wins shootout, 6-5): : The Patriots (13-2-2) nipped the Panthers (10-4) in sudden-death penalty kicks to advance to the Class 4A North regional final. Kelsey Eckenrode gave North Carroll a first-half lead, but Natalie Dodd tied it for host Thomas Johnson.

PIKESVILLE 3, CARVER A&T 1: : The Panthers - led by Montana Lichter with a goal and an assist - were up 2-0 before the Wildcats (11-2) scored their lone goal in a Class 1A North semifinal.

HEREFORD 3, CATONSVILLE 2: : The Bulls (10-3-1) went up 3-1 and held off a rally by the Comets in the final minute. Hereford faces the winner of Towson-Franklin in Wednesday's Class 3A North region final.
