Rachel Pillion Towson, cross country

In cruising to the Baltimore County cross country championship Saturday, not only did the senior win by more than 58 seconds, but she also set a course record in wet conditions.

Her time of 18 minutes, 46.5 seconds on the 3.1-mile Dulaney course broke the record of 18:46.7 set by Hereford's Kristen Malloy at the 2006 Barnhart Invitational.

On Saturday, Pillion cut 1:23 off the time she ran on the same course Sept. 14 in finishing third at the Barnhart. She said she wanted to get out to a quick start and immediately broke away from the field.
