'American Idol' contestant Lakisha Jones marries

Former American Idol contestant Lakisha Jones married financial adviser Larry Davis at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Some fellow Idol alums attended the wedding, including Sanjaya Malakar, Haley Scarnato and Melinda Doolittle.

Jones was booted from Idol in May 2007, finishing as fourth runner-up. The Flint, Mich., native worked for a time at the Millersville branch of Provident Bank in Maryland. The couple will honeymoon in Barbados.

More wedding bells

Shock jock Howard Stern married his longtime girlfriend, Beth Ostrosky, on Friday at Manhattan's Le Cirque restaurant.

The bride wore a white chiffon gown with cutaway back and sides. Officiating at the ceremony was actor Mark Consuelos, Kelly Ripa's husband and an ordained minister.

The 180 guests included Joan Rivers, Barbara Walters, Billy Joel, Steve Schirripa, Chevy Chase, Tommy Mottola, and Donald and Melania Trump.

They dined on tuna tataki, scrambled eggs with white truffles and striped bass with caviar - washed down with wine and champagne.

Goodbye, Opus

Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Berkeley Breathed announced yesterday the end of his 30-year comic strip career. The last Opus, the Sunday-only "sequel" strip to Outland and Bloom County, will appear in newspapers, including The Baltimore Sun, on Nov. 2.

Twice before, Breathed terminated lucrative comic strips, but this time, he insists, is for good.

"With the crisis in Wall Street and Washington, I'm suspending my comic strip to assist the nation. The best way I can help is to leave politics permanently and write funny stories for America's kids. I call on John McCain to join me," he said.

Salute to Sondheim

The Signature Theatre of Arlington, Va., will honor Stephen Sondheim at its gala in April with its first Sondheim Award. The tribute recognizes Sondheim's influence on contemporary musical theater.

In the future, the award will be presented to individuals for their career contributions to Sondheim's musical works, said Eric Schaeffer, the artistic director of Signature Theatre.

Doggone it

The Pilgrim Congregational Church in Weymouth, Mass., launched what its pastor hopes will be weekly "Woof 'n' Worship" services Sunday when parishioners can take their pooches to church.

The Rev. Rachel Bickford says she got the idea from reading the Bible. All breeds are welcome, Bickford said - as long as they are leashed.
