Chris Crane scampered around the left side for a 13-yard touchdown with 22.8 seconds left to help Boston College beat North Carolina State, 38-31, yesterday in Raleigh, giving BC its first Atlantic Coast Conference win and a big boost of confidence for Crane after a shaky start to the season.

Crane's third rushing touchdown capped a huge day for the senior quarterback, who also threw for 428 yards and two touchdowns to help the Eagles (4-1, 1-1) hold on despite blowing a 14-point fourth-quarter lead. Rich Gunnell had 11 catches for 123 yards and a touchdown for Boston College, which finished with 578 yards but had trouble putting away the pesky Wolfpack (2-4, 0-2).

Russell Wilson threw for a touchdown and ran for two more for N.C. State.

Florida State 41, Miami 39: : Antone Smith rushed for a career-best four touchdowns, including a game-clinching 20-yarder with 3:57 remaining, and the Seminoles (4-1, 1-1) wasted most of an early 24-point lead before hanging on to beat the host Hurricanes (2-3, 0-2).

: No. 20 Virginia Tech 27, Western Kentucky 13: : Darren Evans ran for two touchdowns and quarterback Tyrod Taylor had one passing as the host Hokies (5-1) beat the Hilltoppers (2-4).

: North Carolina 38, No. 24 Connecticut 12:: Shawn Draughn rushed for a career-high 109 yards and a touchdown, and the host Tar Heels (4-1) routed the Huskies (5-1).

Georgia Tech 27, Duke 0: : In his first start, freshman Jaybo Shaw passed for 230 yards on nine completions, all to Demaryius Thomas, and Jonathan Dwyer ran for a career-best 159 yards as the host Yellow Jackets (4-1, 2-1) shut out the Blue Devils (3-2, 1-1). Shaw made his first start as Josh Nesbitt was held out with a hamstring injury.
