School redistricting meetings to be held

Two school redistricting committees have scheduled public meetings this week.

The Mountain Road corridor committee will meet at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Marley Elementary School, 715 Cooper Road, Glen Burnie. The committee is looking at redistricting options for the Northeast and Chesapeake feeder systems.

The committee studying redistricting in the southern part of the county will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Davidsonville Elementary School, 962 Central Ave. West. Options in the Southern and South River feeder systems are being studied.

Each committee will each make its recommendations to Superintendent Kevin M. Maxwell this fall. Maxwell will forward his recommendations to the Board of Education by December. The board will hold public hearings on the plans before reaching a decision by April 30.

Severn School to host substance abuse forum

The Severn School will hold a Teen Drinking & Substance Abuse Forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday at 201 Water St., Severna Park.

Michael Gimbel, director of the Substance Abuse Education and Prevention Services at Sheppard Pratt, will be the featured speaker. The program is open to the public.

Annapolis teen chosen to appear on 'Jeopardy!'

Audrey Hosford of Annapolis recently was selected as one of 15 teens to appear on the Jeopardy! Teen Tournament that will be aired this season.

She will begin a 10-day round of taping the show Tuesday. Contests start with a quarter-final round, semifinal round and two-game grand final for the championship.

First place is $75,000, second is $25,000 and third is $15,000.

A junior at Archbishop Spalding, Hosford has been a longtime fan of Jeopardy!

She started two years ago trying to make the teen show.

County school will be closed for Yom Kippur

Anne Arundel County schools will be closed Thursday for Yom Kippur.

Offices also are closed, and extracurricular activities are canceled.

Northeast High Class of 1973 to hold reunion

The Northeast High School Class of 1973 will hold its 35th reunion from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday at Windows on the Bay.

Tickets are $60, and checks can be sent to Northeast Class of 1973, 110 Sherburn Road, Severna Park, 21146.

Dept. of Health offers free FluMist vaccines

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health and Anne Arundel County schools will offer elementary students free FluMist vaccines this month.

Vaccines will be given from Oct. 20 to Oct. 30 to healthy children between the ages of 5 and 11, provided they have written parental consent. Parental permission forms and a vaccine information sheet were recently sent home with students.

Permission forms must be returned to elementary schools in advance. Parents who did not receive the forms can download them from the Anne Arundel County schools Web site, www.aacps.org. Information: 410-222-5312 or 410-222-4508.
