Technology council to host 2 seminars

The Howard Technology Council will be host for a seminar, "Taking Advantage of Social Media to Gain Customers and Become a Thoughtful Leader," to be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Oct. 15 at the Center for Business and Technology Development, 9250 Bendix Road North, Columbia.

Jared Goralnick, president of SET Consulting and author of the blog, Technotheory.com, will discuss using social media to achieve business objectives. He will discuss building relationships, connecting with customers and promoting a brand through blogs, Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, brand-monitoring and other social media.

The seminar is designed for executives and business development leaders in small to mid-size companies who want to amplify their message, develop thought leadership and find new business online.

Goralnick will explain how he has used these channels to promote his new product, AwayFind.com, and how social media can be more cost effective and longer lasting than traditional marketing.

Mike Mooney of Premier Planning Group will discuss "golden handcuff" strategies that assist corporations in recruiting, retaining and rewarding key executives, and why these plans benefit the employee and the business owner, in a seminar to be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Oct. 16, "Cost Savings, Employee and Retirement Benefit Methods and Key Executive Retention Strategies for Businesses," at the Center for Business and Technology Development.

The focus of the talk will be on tailoring health care coverage to needs and using the savings for employee retention.

Business Women's Network to meet Oct. 15

The Business Women's Network of Howard County will meet at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 15 for a lunchtime Roundtable Advisory Council for small and medium-size businesses. The meeting will be held at That's Amore restaurant, 10400 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia.

Panelists are to include representatives from the fields of accounting, legal issues, business development, bookkeeping, banking, business coaching and human resources.

Admission is $30 for members; guests and members pay $40 at the door.
