The Long Reach Community Association is offering a six-week session of classes for children ages 8 to 13, "Stepping Out," to assist them in projecting a positive message, feeling good about themselves and getting comfortable in social settings.
The classes will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays, starting soon, at Stonehouse in Long Reach Village Center.
The cost is $150 for six weeks, with a 5 percent discount for those who live on Columbia Association-assessed property.

Hispanic Family Festival
The east Columbia library, 6600 Cradlerock Way, will celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month this week with a Hispanic Family Festival.
A "Hola and Hello" children's class, for ages 2 to 5 with a parent, is scheduled at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Latino crafts for youth will be offered at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. A family book discussion is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday. A literacy seminar is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, and a Mariachi band will play for dancing at 7:30 p.m. Friday. A film will be shown at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Help needed : A-OK (Assist Our Kids) Mentoring/Tutoring Program is recruiting volunteers to work with Howard County elementary and middle schools. Volunteers are needed during school hours and after school until 6 p.m. Volunteers should be able to dedicate an hour a week for a school year. Dancing : Long Reach Community Association is offering fall dance classes for ages 3 to adults. The 12-week sessions include Classes in First Steps, Pre-ballet, Combinations, Classical Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Pointe, Hip Hop and Modern. The classes, which are taught by staff members from Ballet with Cindee Velle, are held weekday afternoons and evenings and Tuesday and Saturday mornings at Stonehouse in Long Reach Village Center.
