Newsletters for parents, child care providers

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health's Learn to Live program offers free copies of its latest newsletter, "Building Blocks," for child care providers and parents.

The newsletter includes tips for physical activities and calcium-rich snacks for children. Community health resources are listed. The newsletter also has an insert that can be copied and distributed.

The Learn to Live program works to help residents reduce their risk of developing serious illnesses by making healthy choices.

Support group for men facing prostate cancer

Anne Arundel Medical Center is offering a new support group for men affected by prostate cancer. Man to Man, founded in partnership with the American Cancer Society, meets from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month in the center's Clatanoff Pavilion auditorium.

The group will offer its members a chance to hear from physicians about the disease and its treatment, and learn about new research and treatment options. Men with recently diagnosed prostate cancer, cancer survivors interested in helping others along their path to recovery, and patients with prostate disease are welcome. Those who attend are welcome to bring spouses, family members and partners.

Kitchen Tour planned for Oct. 4 in Severna Park

The Hospice of the Chesapeake Auxiliary will hold the organization's Kitchen Tour on Oct. 4 in Severna Park.

The event will include a seminar featuring kitchen designers Joni Zimmerman, owner of Design Solutions, and Mark T. White, owner of Kitchen Encounters, a luncheon and tours of nine home kitchens in the Severna Park community of Linstead-on-the-Severn.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. at the Chartwell Golf and Country Club, 1 Chartwell Drive in Severna Park. Tours will be offered from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The daylong event costs $55, and includes the design seminar, lunch and tours. Tours alone cost $30 in advance; $35 at the door.

The deadline to register is Monday. Checks should be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake Auxiliary and sent to Millie Biedenkapp, 1348 Kinloch Circle, Arnold 21012. Information: 410-544-2224.
