September 15, 2008|By DAN CONNOLLY

LIZ GOES CAREER LONG: : Orioles starter Radhames Liz (6-5) threw eight shutout innings against the Twins, the longest outing of his brief career. He had lasted just eight innings total in his previous two starts. He has won both of his games against Minnesota this season.

TWO HOME RUNS TWICE: : Nick Markakis and Oscar Salazar each had a two-run homer and a solo shot, with Markakis' homers coming in the first and fifth and Salazar's in the second and fourth. The previous time the Orioles had two players hit two homers in a game was Aug. 17 at Detroit, when Melvin Mora and Luke Scott did it.

20-HOMER CLUB: : With the two homers, Markakis reached 20 for the second consecutive season. He is the fifth Oriole to hit 20 this season, joining Aubrey Huff, Kevin Millar, Scott and Mora.

SHERRILL SHOWS: : Closer George Sherrill, who hadn't pitched since Aug. 15 with shoulder inflammation, entered in the ninth with a 7-0 lead. He had one strikeout but loaded the bases on two walks and a single and then gave up a pinch-hit RBI single to Brendan Harris before being removed for Jim Miller. Sherrill was charged with three earned runs in one-third of an inning.
