"We have something started here that is going to reap big benefits down the road," said Crowley, who will enter his 15th season as an Orioles coach in 2009. "I've worked with [club president] Andy MacPhail before, and he will turn this into a winning franchise again. You can't find a better manager to work for, a better baseball guy, a better man. I'm real comfortable with the rest of the staff. They're good people, they all work hard. It's a real good fit.

Kranitz, who said he would be honored to return for his second season, Dunn and Shelby were all hired by Trembley.

"I think [this] is probably about a week earlier or two weeks earlier than I normally know, but it's nice to know that you're wanted," Shelby said. "I'd love to come back."

No makeup date scheduled

The Orioles will decide in the coming days whether they will make up the first game of yesterday's split doubleheader that was postponed by rain. There is a chance that the game will not be made up because it will have no impact on the playoffs.

Guthrie to go Tuesday

Trembley shook up his rotation slightly, moving ace Jeremy Guthrie to Tuesday and scheduling Garrett Olson for tomorrow night's series opener against the Cleveland Indians. Olson was originally scheduled to start in the first game of yesterday's doubleheader, which was rained out.

Chris Waters, Radhames Liz and Daniel Cabrera will follow Guthrie in the Indians series.
