The sunny weather played a part in her success this year, said Myleigh, 14, of Bel Air.
"I did the log last year in the rain," she said. "It was very slippery. So this year when I did it, I thought it would still be slippery. But it wasn't, and I made it across easily."
But the day wasn't without its conflicts, said Zoe, 12, of Forest Hill.
"A couple of times we had arguments about who was going to go first," said Zoe, a seventh-grader. "We decided to let the people who didn't care when they had a turn go first, and that ended the arguments."
The field trip helped alleviate sixth-grader Alex Foley's apprehension about attending the school. After attending Ring Factory Elementary School for five years, he was faced with leaving all his friends, he said. But he was pleasantly surprised when he made friends on the first day of school.
"Genesee was thrilling," said Alex, 10, of Bel Air. "I didn't know anyone, but being out there with the other kids all day gave me a chance to learn the personalities of the kids, and make some friends. I can't imagine that this won't be a fantastic year. I don't even know what will happen next."
