FLIPPING OUT: : The defensive play of the game was turned in by Athletics third baseman Jack Hannahan in the bottom of the fifth. He chased a foul pop toward the visiting dugout, extended his arm to reach it and flipped into the dugout, the bottom half of him caught by teammates while the top half hit the concrete. He held on for the grab.
TOUGH DEBUT:: Brian Bass, who was acquired by the Orioles yesterday from the Minnesota Twins for a player to be named, entered in the sixth with one out and the bases loaded. Facing his first batter as an Oriole, he walked in a run on four pitches to Hannahan before settling down with a groundout and a pop-up to get out of the jam.
MORE FREE PASSES:: The Orioles walked 10 A's, the sixth time in seven games they have issued seven or more in a game. They allowed five walks with the bases loaded, including four in one inning.
