The dance party

meet the band

August 28, 2008|By Sam Sessa

Hometown: College Park

Members: Mick Coogan, vocals and guitar; Danny Hoag, bass; Jeff David, drums; Kevin Bayly, guitar; Drew Doucette, keyboards and guitar

Founded: 2005

Style: Power pop

Influenced by: The Cars, Santogold, Cobra Starship, Van Halen

Notable: The band has been working with producer/engineer Andros Rodriguez (Justin Timberlake, Ludacris) in New York City for its new album. Doucette and Rodriguez were friends, and Doucette persuaded him to see one of The Dance Party's shows. Rodriguez agreed, liked what he saw and offered to help them with the record. As a result, it sounds more layered and danceable, Bayly said.

Quotable: "We're super-stoked," Bayly said. "Our last record sounded really indie, and this one sounds super-produced."

If you go: The Dance Party performs with Red Headed Temper on Saturday at The Ottobar, 2549 N. Howard St. Doors open at 8 p.m. Call 410-662-0069 or go to The band:
