A world of clever ads

Z ON TV

Don't be fooled by a title that makes World's Funniest Commercials 2008 sound like a blooper reel of stupidity. This is one of the most insightful and thought-provoking shows of the TV year. And, oh, by the way, it does something American TV does less and less these days: Exposes viewers to other cultures around the world.

But beyond being smart, the show with husband and wife Kevin Nealon and Susan Yeagley is also a smile-maker from the first ad for Wienershnitzel, "the world's most wanted wiener," to an Argentine commercial for a deodorant that has women tearing body parts off the young man who uses it.

Note the British ad for a fat guy in a leotard doing gymnastics. A similar-looking an ad for the Maryland Lottery ran during the Olympics. (9 p.m., TBS). ** 1/2

Don't rush: Season 2 of Greek returns tonight. The big news: Rebecca (Dilshad Vadsaria) went topless and it's all over the Internet. I can't believe I watched the whole hour. Heck, I can't believe they still make TV shows about frat life. (9 p.m. ABC Family) *

Drama at the DNC: Who would be fool enough to miss Sen. Hillary Clinton's appearance tonight at the Democratic National Convention? Talk about drama and intrigue. You can see coverage in dozens of places. But my picks: CNN andPBS. CNN starts at 6 a.m. (yes a.m., Roscoe), while PBS starts at 8 p.m. on MPT (Channels 22 and 67) and WETA (Channel 26).
