Workshop focuses on stress

Business and life coach Marilyn Thorpe of NexPhase Transitions LLC will present "Five Secrets to Managing Stress," a workshop to be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 26 at Good Life Wellness Center at Historic Savage Mill, 8600 Foundry St., in Savage.

Youth baseball holds tryouts

The Savage Spirit 14-U travel baseball team will hold tryouts for its fall team from 9 a.m. to noon today at Savage Park Field No. 5; 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Patuxent Valley Middle School; and 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 24 at Savage Park Field No. 5.

Players are encouraged to attend all three dates; two dates are mandatory.

Flag football : The Savage Boys and Girls Club is accepting registration for its fall flag football season for children ages 6 to 14. Registration closes at midnight Aug. 31. The season runs from late September to late November, with weekly practices and games Sundays. A 25 percent sibling discount is available. Wildlife : The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's Patuxent Research Refuge will offer a Herp Search for all ages from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. today. A refuge naturalist will lead participants in a search for reptiles and amphibians. Wear good walking shoes.

* A Nature Scene Investigation to enable youths ages 10 and older to join a refuge naturalist in learning what different animal skulls can teach us about an animal's lifestyle, will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 .am. tomorrow.

Preschool activities : The Savage branch library, 9525 Durness Lane, offers classes for preschool-age children to foster language development and early literacy. "Kindergarten, Here We Come!" - a program of stories and activities to mark the important first day at school, will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow, 7 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Wednesday.
