Randallstown man kills wife, himself

CRIME WATCH

August 11, 2008|By Brent Jones

A Randallstown man shot and killed his wife in the basement of the couple's home in the 4200 block of Mary Ridge Drive before turning the gun on himself yesterday, Baltimore County police said.

The man called 911 about 7:30 a.m. and told the dispatcher that he had just killed his wife, police said. The man then said, "I'm going down to [the basement] to join her," police said.

Police dispatched a SWAT team to the house. The unit entered the home and found both bodies in the basement, according to Cpl. George Erhardt of the county police.

Police did not release the couple's identity. They said they were waiting to contact next of kin.

At the couple's home - which sits on a quiet, tree-lined street in a neighborhood filled with detached two-story houses - an American flag hung over the driveway. An electric candle remained lit in an upstairs room. The mailbox identified the occupant of the house as "U.S. Airborne, Special Forces Ranger."

Neighbors declined to comment.
