Input sought for Police Department

The public will have the chance to comment on the Baltimore County Police Department's performance at an information meeting this month as part of an assessment examination by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.

Comments must address the department's ability to comply with commission standards for re-accreditation.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Baltimore County Public Safety Building, 700 E. Joppa Road, Towson. Residents also may phone in comments between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Aug. 18 at 410-887-4931.

Temple Emanuel plans service under the stars

Temple Emanuel Congregation of Reisterstown will hold a summer service under the stars Friday at the Westminster Community Pond on Route 140.

The public is invited to take a picnic supper for 6 p.m. The Kaballat Shabbat service will be at 7:30 p.m. A pavilion is available in case of rain.

Cantor Rhoda Silverman will describe the elements of the Shabbat service.

Historical Society to hold workshop

The Historical Society of Baltimore County will hold a workshop on "How Historians 'Do' History" from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Old Almshouse, 9811 Van Buren Lane, Cockeysville.

The workshop for amateur historians will be presented by Glenn Johnston, adjunct professor of public history at Stevenson University.

The cost is $15 for members and $25 for nonmembers. The program is limited to eight people.
