The Dundalk-based Chorus of the Chesapeake has won numerous awards in its 50-plus years and is currently the Western Division champion of the Mid-Atlantic District of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Sixty of its members will perform oldies and classics as a part of Monumental Life Insurance's Entertainment on the Terrace series, which commemorates the company's 150th anniversary.

Family Fun

The 14th Annual Family Fun Festival features live jazz performances, food vendors, art workshops and other activities. The two-day festival kicks off with a parade Saturday morning featuring local marching bands. Local hospitals, doctors and dentists will have booths offering free medical testing and examinations as well.

The festival runs noon-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Franklin Square Park, at West Fayette and North Carey streets. The parade is at 10 a.m. Saturday and starts at Fremont Avenue and Lexington Street. Call 410-659-9914.

Japanese storytelling

Rakugo is a traditional form of Japanese comedy. A lone performer remains seated and uses only a paper fan, different voices and facial expressions to convey a complex story. In celebration of this challenging art form, the World Artist Experience and Maryland Hall present distinguished Rakugo performer Katsura Kaishi, who will present his story in both English and Japanese.

Open Minds

Open Minds Art Clubs provide a fun, creative atmosphere for children to explore art and literature at different locations in Baltimore. Sponsored by the Enoch Pratt Free Library and the Creative Alliance at the Patterson, children of all ages produced paintings, photography, collages and sculptures at the monthlong workshops, which ended Tuesday. Artwork from all of the sites will be on display at the Summer '08 Open Minds Exhibition reception, which also features awards for the budding artists.

The Hedge Band

Why: A screening of Together, Lukas Moodysson's narrative about idealists trying to create a sustainable living system in the 1970s, resonates with current attempts to live a "greener" life.
