A woman hiking with a friend in the woods at Oregon Ridge Park near Hunt Valley yesterday afternoon was assisted from the woods by firefighters after she suffered an allergic reaction from a wasp sting. A county firefighter sprained an ankle while assisting her, a county fire spokesman said. Their names were not released.

After being stung about 4 p.m., the woman called 911, but her cell phone malfunctioned, said spokesman Lt. James Artis.

He said the woman's companion used a second cell phone to dial 911, and a county helicopter was dispatched and hovered over Oregon Ridge, directing a four-wheel-drive vehicle to the scene.
