Preparation course offered

Registration is open for a preparation course for SAT and PSAT. The course, which is open to high school students, is from noon to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 23 and 30 at Chapelgate Christian Academy, 2600 Marriottsville Road, Marriottsville.

The cost is $185, and includes tuition and materials. A portion of the tuition will benefit the school.

Meditation session for horses, owners

Visitors are invited to join an evening Horse Meditation on Boyds Farm, a 200-acre property overlooking Sugarloaf Mountain in Frederick County.

The two-hour meditation is designed to benefit both people and horses.

A portion of the $15 fee will be donated to Days End Farm Horse Rescue. Registration is required.

Pick your own : Larriland Farm, a pick-your-own operation in Woodbine, owned and operated by the Moore family since 1973, is offering opportunities to pick blueberries, tart and sweet cherries, red raspberries and beets through much of the summer. Sweet cherries can be picked Thursdays and Saturdays, if they are available (call for hours). Larriland Farm is at 2415 Woodbine Road. Teen space : The Glenwood Community Center's game room for teens is open 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The room is for ages 12 and older. It includes a pool table, table tennis, bumper pool and a video game area with a large-screen TV. After-school activities and programs are planned. An identification card from the center is required. Breast-feeding : La Leche League of Eldersburg will celebrate World Breastfeeding Week from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Sykesille Freedom Fire Department, 6680 Sykesville Road, in Sykesville. Blood pressure screening : The Glenwood branch library, 2350 Route 97, Cooksville, will offer free, walk-in blood pressure screening by Howard County General Hospital staff, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday and Aug. 18. 410-313-5577.

Preschool classes : The Glenwood library, 2350 Route 97, Cooksville, offers preschool classes to teach social skills, comprehension and the foundations of reading. An adult must accompany children younger than 3.

*"Play Partners," for infants and toddlers to 23 months with an adult, is offered at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesdays. Registration is not required.

*"Picture Bug Parade," a 30-minute summer program of music and stories for ages 2 to 5, is offered at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Thursdays. (The program will revert to its original titled, "Picture Book Parade," in the fall. Registration is not required.

*"Potty Time," a program of stories for children ages 18 months to 3 years old with an adult, will offer tips for parents. The program will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 20. Registration begins Aug. 13.

Summer : Moms Connect of Friendship Baptist Church in Sykesville offers opportunities for mothers, grandmothers and their children to share experiences and support. It will meet for "Summer in the Park" from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. every other Wednesday at Freedom Park in Sykesville. This week's theme is "Faithfulness, Goodness, Self-Control."
