Comedian Lewis Black at the Meyerhoff

The Lowdown: Comedian Lewis Black, the host of Comedy Central's The Root of All Evil, brings his caustic humor to Baltimore this weekend. A regular contributor to The Daily Show, Black uses sarcasm, anger and a lot of profanity to comment on the absurdities of daily life and modern politics. Black embarked on his "Let Them Eat Cake" tour this year to promote the recent release of his second book, Me of Little Faith.

Baltimore Improv Festival

The Lowdown: The 2008 Baltimore Improv Festival features seven performances by more than 20 of the area's funniest performers. Most of the comedians are from the Baltimore-Washington region, but the festival also includes performers from Philadelphia and New York. There will also be workshops, led by some of the performers, to help budding comedians hone their skills and become more familiar with improv comedy.

If You Go : The festival is today through Sunday at the Creative Alliance at the Patterson, 3134 Eastern Ave. Shows are at 8 tonight, and 7 p.m., 8:30 p.m., and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
