Cult of Saints

The Lowdown : Reliquaries are works of art created for the containment of saintly bodies and served important religious roles during medieval times. The Walters Art Museum presents their exploration and examination of these shrines in The Special Dead: A Medieval Reliquary Revealed. The exhibit focuses on the shrine of 13th-century Saint Amandus and serves as a preview for a larger exhibition planned to open in 2010.

Gay Deceivers

The Lowdown : The Theatrical Mining Company presents Gay Deceivers as part of the 27th annual Baltimore Playwrights Festival. The comedy centers on a turn-of-the-century wife desperate to recapture the attentions of her husband. Buoyed by the inventive spirit of the early 1900s, Tolly Roswell creates a breast-enhancing system that she titles "Gay Deceivers." Mayhem ensues when Tolly's friends become involved with Tolly's new product.

If You Go : Gay Deceivers opens tonight and runs until Aug. 17 at LeClerc Hall, College of Notre Dame of Maryland, 4701 N. Charles St. Shows are at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and at 7 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are "pay what you can" on Thursday. There will be two-for-one admission nights on Aug. 3 and Aug. 10. Gershwin & Bernstein

The Lowdown : The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra presents a tribute to classic American composers George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein. Maestro Bramwell Tovey conducts and plays piano as the orchestra performs Gershwin's classical compositions Rhapsody in Blue and American in Paris. The orchestra will also perform selections from Bernstein's famed musical West Side Story.
