Yankees update

So maybe this isn't the year New York falls apart and tumbles to the bottom of the standings. The early-season turmoil seems like a thing of the past. Before last night's loss to the Red Sox, the Yankees had won eight in a row to pull within 2 1/2 games of first place in the American League East and one game of second-place Boston. The roster has undergone significant changes since the previous time the Yankees and Orioles met. New York signed Richie Sexson after the Seattle Mariners released him and completed a trade Saturday that brought outfielder Xavier Nady and pitcher Damaso Marte from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Marte is the only left-hander in the Yankees' bullpen. Second baseman Robinson Cano had an eight-game hitting streak before going 0-for-4 last night. He had seven multi-hit games in those eight. Since 2005, Cano's .339 post-break average is second only to Placido Polanco in the majors.
