P adma is the Sanskrit word for lotus, which is the symbol of a new beginning. That's exactly the concept that Kimberly Cincotta and Jennifer Warner were going for when they opened Padma Salon in Hampden on July 11. After 12 years of working together in the salon industry, the Baltimore natives joined forces to create a salon with a soothing and friendly environment.
"We wanted to venture out on our own and do things that other salons weren't doing," said Warner.
The salon is in the space of a former laundromat that appeared in the movie Pecker.
Cincotta says all of the products are environmentally safe and the owners make sure all of the floor hair clippings go to "Matter of Trust" - an organization that uses the clippings to create oil spill hair mats that soak up oil in major spills.
Prices for men's and women's haircuts, coloring and styling range from $25 to $130, and $85 to $300 for chemical processes such as perms, relaxers or keratin straightening treatments.
Extensions are also offered, but priced upon request.
Prices for manicures and pedicures range from $15 to $35, and the women also offer tanning sessions for $7 or $55 for unlimited monthly tanning. Waxing prices range from $9 to $65.
For Cincotta and Warner, the salon business never gets old.
"Since I was 15 years old, I've been in some kind of salon service," said Cincotta. "I love to see people feel good about themselves."
