Volleyball camps for kids up to 18

Volleyball House in Elkridge will be the host for the Bob Bertucci Volleyball Camp for youth ages 11-18. Bertucci, a head coach at Temple University, and his staff will offer two individual skills camps, a team camp and a beginners' camp for elementary and middle school children Aug. 7-13.

Countdown to 'Breaking Dawn'

Barnes & Noble Booksellers in the Long Gate Shopping Center will hold a Breaking Dawn party at 10 p.m. Friday to celebrate the release of the fourth book in Stephanie Meyer's Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn.

Fans are invited to come in costume and participate in a trivia contest, reading groups and a discussion of the history of vampires. The book will officially go on sale at midnight; the store will remain open late.

Summer reading : The B&O Railroad Museum is holding a summer reading program at its Ellicott City and Baltimore locations. "I've Been Reading on the Railroad" invites elementary school-age children to pick up a reading journal from the museum's store, the Whistle Stop Shop, read eight books and record them in the journal. Children who return the journal on or before Sept. 2 will receive a free book and will be entered to win an engineer's outfit. The museum has a list of suggested books, which focus on life on the railroad, available at the museum store. Cheerleading, football : Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks is accepting registration for Elkridge Hurricanes Flag and Tackle football and cheerleading. Practice begins in August at Elkridge Landing Middle School. The season runs through mid-November. Flag football for ages 5 and 6 costs $85; tackle football for ages 7 to 14 costs $160. Cheerleading for ages 5 to 14 costs $125. Tackle football participants are placed on teams based on age and weight. Early registration is advised. Camp : The Centennial High School Boosters will sponsor Eagle Baseball School for boys ages 7-14. The camp, led by Centennial baseball coach Denis Ahearn, offers drills in throwing, hitting, fielding base-running, pitching, catching and strategy. Players' skills will be individually analyzed and improved. Top players and coaches in the area will demonstrate their skills, and the emphasis will be on fundamentals, sportsmanship and fun. The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. tomorrow through Friday at Centennial High School. Tuition is $165 with a $15 discount if three or more campers register at the same time.
