Man charged in fatal shooting

Annapolis police have charged a Brooklyn man in a May homicide, police said yesterday.

Deonte Desmund Boyd, 24, of the 3700 block of St. Margaret St. has been charged with first-degree murder, reckless endangerment and two handgun violations in the May 3 shooting death of Michael Lee Thompson Sr. Found in the first block of Pleasant St., Thompson, 31, of Captain's Circle was suffering from gunshot wounds.

Boyd, who has been arrested multiple times since 2003, is being held in Prince George's County on drug charges and is expected to be returned to Anne Arundel County to be formally served with the murder charge. He was indicted in April in Anne Arundel County on multiple drug and weapons charges but was released on bond.

Officer Hal Dalton, a spokesman for the Annapolis Police Department, said that witnesses told detectives that they had seen Boyd and Thompson arguing over drugs.

Thompson was the city's sixth and most recent homicide victim this year as Annapolis headed toward a record-high homicide tally. That pace has slowed, but the city remains close to matching last year's record of eight. Thompson's killing is the second this year to result in an arrest.
