John W. Wenger, 80

Printing estimator

John Walter Wenger, a retired printing estimator, died of a heart attack Tuesday at his Severna Park home. He was 80.

Born in Baltimore and raised in Park Heights, he was a 1946 graduate of McDonogh School, where he played varsity football. He served four years in the Navy in the 1940s. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland College Park.

Mr. Wenger became a cost estimator for Press Star in Mitchellville and also worked for other printing businesses. He retired in 1995.

Mr. Wenger enjoyed playing golf and visiting garage sales. He also raised golden retrievers.

"He loved his family," said his son, Rick Wenger of Augusta, Ga. "He was the life of the party and a happy-go-lucky guy."

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow at Barranco & Sons Funeral Home of Severna Park, 495 Ritchie Highway.

In addition to his son, survivors include a sister, Laurette Scharper of Lutherville. His wife of 45 years, Nancy Lee Brashears, died in 2000.
