Tigers update

The Orioles and Detroit will meet for the first time since April 2007. Last year, the Tigers beat the Orioles five times in six games, the Orioles' worst record against Detroit since 1986. On June 6, the Tigers were 12 games under .500, but they finished the first half by winning 23 of their final 34 games to get back to .500 and in the thick of the playoff race. Help is also on the way as star outfielder Magglio Ordonez will be activated from the disabled list before tonight's series opener. Miguel Cabrera is batting .311 with five homers and nine RBIs in 11 games this month. Outfielder Marcus Thames, who had 10 homers in 22 games in June, has cooled, batting .216 with two homers and six RBIs in 11 games this month. Ace right-hander Justin Verlander, whom the Orioles will face Sunday, has won five straight decisions.
